December 2017

Hope everyone had a wonderful Yule, and a happy New Year!

Life and Things

I joined a liver study, and have been continuing my dietary guidelines. The holidays certainly were hard! I indulged in desserts and things, but I’m back to salads and hummus again 😆.  I was approached to be part of a second study, this one clinical trials for a med to help NASH. I have a 2:3 chance of getting the med. It’s a six to seven year study, and I’ll need to have at least three more biopsies, so that’s fun…  My mom got her results back for her second lupus testing, and it was a second positive. 😟  We have the same thing going on, so I need to be more proactive in getting a rheumatologist appointment.

This was a musical month! At the beginning of the month, we went to see Trans-Siberian Orchestra, and towards the end of the month, we went to see Lindsey Stirling.

Yule was fun. I got books, a cool book trivia calendar, a beautiful big snow globe from Aladdin, a hand-carved tiki pendant, and various gift cards, which meant more books! My niece also gave me two sets of really cool Dalek magnets.

I’ve become addicted to Stranger Things 😅 It’s very nostalgic for me, having grown up during the 80s. I loved that they dressed as Ghostbusters! And I’m looking forward to Star Trek: Discovery’s return. Oh, and X-Files, since we’re doing nostalgic 😆

Blog Stuff

I’ve been trying to keep up with WWW Wednesday, and I’ve started doing some of the Top Ten Tuesday prompts. Trying to do more comments on blogs I follow, and keep up with all the all the new posts!

I made a book tag of my own, on a trip home from Sacramento.

Other than that, I’m still trying to catalog my previous posts, and update them.

Best Reads of the Month

Celine on Fire by Dale Allan Pelton

This was a rich philosophical read, full of historical tidbits. It looks at how events in the past shape the future, looking at wider pictures.

Quackery by Lydia Kang & Nate Pedersen

This was a fascinating look at unusual, and sometimes just plain wacky medical solutions of the past. Most were actually serious treatments of their time. Just… misguided. 😅

Quiet Girl in a Noisy World by Debbie Tung

An illustrated guide to an introvert’s life. This was soooo accurate! Being a severe introvert myself, I greatly appreciated the truth and humour of this book.

Best Series New to Me

The Ryogan Chronicles

Island of Exiles by Erica Cameron

Sea of Strangers by Erica Cameron

I love unique, interesting magical systems, and The Ryogan Chronicles doesn’t disappoint.
