This is a weekly meme created by Dani @ Perspective of a Writer, to show off favourite characters. Be sure to check out their blog! This week’s topic is … A Minor Character who Needs their own Story.
Okay, so, first I was going to go with Samwise Gamgee, from LotR. BUT! I don’t see him as a minor character, so much as the true hero of the story. And that would be a different prompt!
So, my choice is Blue, the beta raptor from the Jurassic World movies. What I wouldn’t give for a book/story from Blue’s pov in the time between the movies, or after FK. As intelligent as Blue is, I have no doubt there are complex thoughts going on. A story about her adapting to Nublar after the park closes, or adapting after FK, and the challenges she would face either way would be awesome and it’s not as if a raptor-centric story is a new idea.
‘A pair of fierce but beautiful eyes look out from the undergrowth of conifers. She is an intelligent killer…
So begins one of the most extraordinary novels you will ever read. The time is 120 million years ago, the place is the plains of prehistoric Utah, and the eyes belong to an unforgettable heroine. Her name is Raptor Red, and she is a female Raptor dinosaur.
Painting a rich and colorful picture of a lush prehistoric world, leading paleontologist Robert T. Bakker tells his story from within Raptor Red’s extraordinary mind, dramatizing his revolutionary theories in this exciting tale. From a tragic loss to the fierce struggle for survival to a daring migration to the Pacific Ocean to escape a deadly new predator, Raptor Red combines fact an fiction to capture for the first time the thoughts, emotions, and behaviors of the most magnificent, enigmatic creatures ever to walk the face of the earth.’
I love your choice! So personal, unusual and unique!! Confession I have never read nor watched Jurassic World but now I want to and pay special attention to Blue 😉
Blue was awesome in both JW movies!
Oh WOW Aislynn! GAAAAAHHHHH! I love this idea! ❤️ I actually think many fans of Jurassic Park would read a book or watch a movie about Blue from Blue’s POV. I actually LOVE books where a creature of some type (dragon, cat, mouse) is the POV character and humans are the ones seen as animals or worse. I didn’t even know a book about raptors existed, thanks so much for sharing Bakker’s book! I need to add it to my TBR! 😀
Me too! Have you read EE Knight’s Age of Fire series? Or the Redwall books by Brian Jacques?
